Mexican American Archives Project
A Project of the Hispanic Research Center
& the UTSA Library Special Collections and Archives Department
The Mexican American Archives Project specializes in acquiring, preserving, arranging, describing, and providing access to primary source materials that document the social, political, cultural and historical activities of Mexican Americans in San Antonio and South Texas since World War II.
History
The Mexican American Archives project was established in 1991 by the Hispanic
Research Center (now a part of the UTSA Culture and Policy Institute) in
collaboration with the UTSA Library Special Collections and Archives Department.
The project began with the realization that there were scant materials available
on the political activities of the Mexican American community in San Antonio
since World War II. The concern was that the public in general, and many
scholars, in particular, were unaware of the role of the Mexican American
community in politics before 1975.
