Library Collections

The UTSA Library provides electronic and physical access to a wealth of information resources and services. The Library collections include:

  • over 650,000 books and 2,500 periodical subscriptions
  • electronic access to more than 30,000 periodicals
  • atlases and maps, including Flood Insurance Rate Maps
  • microforms
  • non-print materials including compact discs, DVDs and videorecordings
  • K - 12 Curriculum materials
  • state & federal government documents
  • archives, manuscripts, and rare books

Some collections available at the library are:

NonProfit Resource Collection
In the fall of 2005, the Nonprofit Resource Center of Texas donated a portion of its library of more than 100 items to the UTSA Downtown Library, comprising books, videos and audiotapes. The collection has been added to the exisiting resources of the UTSA Downtown Library for use by the general public, professionals in the nonprofit arena and students in the nonprofit management program and the American Humanics Program of the Center for Policy Studies. Archives

The Archives acquires, preserves and provides access to primary source materials that document the history of San Antonio and South Texas. The collections represent the diverse populations of San Antonio. Collections include private papers, organizational and institutional records documenting economic, social, cultural and political trends significant to San Antonio and South Texas. The Archives is also the host of the University Archives.

Archives is located downtown in the UTSA Institute of Texan Cultures building and focuses on personal papers and organizational records.


Special Collections

a rare book from Special Collections

Special Collections is a unit of the UTSA Archives and Special Collections Department. Special Collections is a book and manuscript collection focusing primarily on San Antonio, Texas, and the Southwestern United States, Spanish Colonial Mexico and the Pacific Northwest. Of special note is the John Peace book collection concentrating on the Spanish Colonial, Mexican Republic and Republic of Texas periods.

Special Collections is located on the 2nd floor of the JPL Building on the 1604 campus.


Multimedia Center

The Multimedia Center houses and services non-print media. Most items circulate to UTSA-affiliated individuals, and all materials can be used in-house with the equipment housed in the Center. Materials include:

  • videocassettes
  • DVDs
  • records (discs)
  • compact discs (CDs)
  • slides
  • audio cassettes
  • laser discs or videodiscs
  • compact disc interactive (CD-I)
  • CD-ROMs
  • software
  • curriculum materials
  • textbooks
  • educational and psychological tests

The Multimedia Center is located on the 1604 campus in the John Peace Library.
