Industry Information
Many library resources organize industry information by a classification number called an SIC code or the more recent NAICS code. You may need to start by obtaining the industry classification for the industry you are researching.

ABI/INFORM (UTSA subscription)
Provides access to three electronic resources, which can be searched simultaneously: ABI/INFORM Dateline, ABI/INFORM Global, and ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry. ABI/INFORM Global indexes and abstracts well over 1,600 business periodicals, providing a substantial number of full text and page image content. ABI/INFORM Trade & Industry offers more than 700 specific trade and industry publications, while ABI/INFORM Dateline provides access to 150 local, city, state and regional business publications. Together these resources enable researchers to track business conditions, trends, management techniques, corporate strategies, and industry-specific topics worldwide. Updated monthly with some coverage from 1971 to the present.
Business Source Complete (UTSA subscription)
Provides full-text coverage for over 9,400 general and scholarly business journals and other sources covering marketing, management, economics, finance, accounting, and international business. Also includes full-text business books; case studies; investment research, industry, market research, and country reports; and SWOT analyses. Some coverage begins in 1886. Full Text/Full Image
Business & Industry (UTSA subscription)
Focuses on facts, figures, key events, market information and intellectual property information about companies, industries, and products. Draws content from approximately 1,000 US and international trade journals, business dailies, regional, national and international newspapers, and newsletters. Content is from 1994 to the present with more than 75% of the entries available in full text. Updated daily.
Business and Company Resource Center (UTSA subscription)
Brings together a wide variety of company and industry business information, including company profiles and histories, current and historical stock prices, market share data, industry overviews, brand information, rankings, investment reports including Reuters Research on Demand and Zacks Investment Research Inc., chronologies, and periodical and news articles.Information can be accessed by a variety of search keys including company name/ticker, industry code/description, geographic area, subject, personal name, and journal title. Updated regularly.
TableBase (UTSA subscription)
Specializes exclusively in tabular data on companies, industries, products and demographics. Includes market share, company and brand rankings, industry and product forecasts, production and consumption statistics, imports and exports, usage and capacity, number of users/outlets, trends and more. Data is culled from the more than 1000 trade and business publications, privately published statistical annuals, trade associations, government agencies, non-profit research groups, and investment research group industry reports. Content is from 1996 to the present. Updated frequently.

Standard and Poor's Industry Surveys
Location: JPL Reference Stacks and Downtown Library, Reference HC106.6 .S74
The most current year is kept in JPL Reference Stacks and Downtown Library Reference; previous years back to 1973 are shelved in JPL Stacks. Contains analytical articles on industries broadly defined - such as "Media" - which may then be subdivided into sections indexed separately ("newspaper publishing," " television," etc.) Also useful for data and analysis of individual companies.
S & P Statistical Service: Current Statistics
Location: JPL Reference Stacks HC101 .S74a (loose leaf binder)
Current Statistics (monthly updates) contains a variety of business and industrial statistics such as output, inventories and prices. Basic Statistics (irregular) covers eight broad industry groups plus price indexes, and income and trade statistics. S&P's Statistical Service: Security Price Index Record lists various stock price indexes over time. Contains 12 months record of performance by industrial group. Also has 12 months record of daily high, low, and close of S&P stock price indexes.
U.S. Industry & Trade Outlook

The most current year is kept in JPL Reference Stacks; previous years back to 1998 are shelved in JPL Folio Stacks. Published by DRI/McGraw Hill/US Dept. of Commerce/International Trade Administration. Industry-by-industry overview of the U.S. economy by major industry group. This is the new title for the previous U.S. Industrial Outlook.

Censuses of broad industry groups (manufactures, retail trade, wholesale trade, service industries and others) in a U.S. summary report and individual state reports with aggregate statistics by SIC code regarding numbers of establishments, sales, payroll, employees, etc. Censuses are compiled every five years. Do a keyword search in UCAT: "census of manufactures". Also indexed and available on microfiche in American Statistics Index.

Mergent's Online (UTSA subscription)
Provides extensive business and financial data on more than 10,000 NYSE, AMEX, and Nasdaq companies as well as 11,000 international companies in more than 100 countries. Also provides direct access to EDGAR, the SEC website, which includes all annual, quarterly, and special corporation records. Updated weekly.

Mergent's Industry Review

Current issue only. This biweekly publication is useful for finding financial information and ratios on some 3,500 companies in 137 industry groups.
RMA Annual Statement Studies

This annual publication from the Robert Morris Association contains ratios by SIC codes and a bibliography of sources of financial ratios for selected industries.
