How to use TILT: Texas Information Literacy Tutorial
What is TILT?
TILT: Texas Information Literacy Tutorial is a shared resource maintained by the University of Texas System.
TILT is designed to help you learn how to locate, evaluate, and use information for academic research.
After you register and complete the introductory module, you can choose to complete any or all of the following 3 modules:
- Module 1: Selecting
describes how to choose resources appropriate for academic research
- Module 2: Searching
describes how to search library databases and the Internet effectively
- Module 3: Evaluating
describes how to locate and evaluate print and online sources
Time required: Allow 30 minutes per module
There is a short online quiz at the end of each module. Complete the Quiz Summary online and email it to your instructor, or print it out.
Steps for using TILT
- Access TILT at http://tilt.lib.utsystem.edu
- Click on Full TILT (total interactivity) or TILT lite (no plug-ins required).
We recommend Full TILT for the complete TILT experience.
- Read the checklist of items that you should have in order to use TILT.
- Click on First Time Visitors to register; fill out the TILT Registration Form completely.
Complete the introductory module.
- Select from TILT Modules 1, 2, or 3.
- Take the Quiz at the end of your selected TILT module.
- You can retake the Quiz as many times as you need in order to score 100%.
- You can comment on what you learned at the last Quiz question of each module.
- You can print your Quiz Summary, if desired. (Printing does not include your Quiz comments.)
- You can email your Quiz Summary to one or more email addresses.
(The email option will include your Quiz comments.)
Place a comma between multiple email addresses like this: myself@utsa.edu,myinstructor@utsa.edu
- Click on TILT to select another TILT Module, or click on EXIT to end your TILT session.
